With international climate change advocates such as Dina Malik (14) from Pakistan, Greta Thunberg (16) from Sweden, Miel Sequeira- Holm (19) from Palau and Alex Rendell (29) from Thailand who have spoken on international forums and been part of several climate change actions ranging from art, writing and activism to training, teaching and creating green business solutions.
My ancestor, my great great grandfather Khairdin Wani was a notable in the darbar of the Raja of Kashmir in the 1800s. On one Eid, Khardin sacrificed a cow on the occasion of Eid-ul- Adha. The people in the neighborhood told him that he had committed a grave mistake and the Raja would be sure to punish him for it. The Raja in all probability was Raja Ranbir Singh who ruled Jammu and Kashmir between 1856-1885.
It took me back to that time of 1993-1997 when I used to recite poetry and prose, religiously, in the Hladia Hall of Kinnaird College. And then to hear Navid Shahzad read from her book was a joy, not just because of the interesting manner in which she had captured the various nuances of her experiences, knowledge, acquired wisdom and obvious language acumen, but also because she knows how to convey her story and then tell it well.
