Abstract
This paper explores the challenges to promoting peace through the methodology of creating new social enterprises in conflict and post-conflict areas of Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The study presented is based on fieldwork across Pakistan and Sri Lanka undertaken 2014- 2015 and will particularly focus on the challenges to the implementation of the peace and social entrepreneurship projects undertaken at the regional level.
The paper will also explore the problems associated with the lack of understanding of the concept, relevance and importance of connecting social enterprise development with peace building. Some of the root causes of extremism in Pakistan during the last decade will also be discussed to which solutions at the micro and macro level will be suggested. As a regional stakeholder, Pakistan’s role with respect to social entrepreneurship for peace development trends in neighbouring Sri Lanka will also be analysed at length.
