Nighat Dad, SEWEGAP Power Woman 2016

SEW-EGAP (SEPLAA Empowering Women for Economic Growth & Peace) Women Empowerment Program announced Nighat Dad another strong Pakistani woman as a SEWEGAP Power Woman for 2016:

Nighat Dad who is a lawyer by training, founded the not-for-profit organization, The Digital Rights Foundation Pakistan, in 2012. Digital Rights Foundation is a research based advocacy not-for-profit organization focusing on Information and Communication Technology to support human rights, democratic processes and digital governance. Her expertise include cyber laws, addressing issues of internet governance, online freedom of expression, and articulating civil society’s concerns over government policies that hamper citizens’ use of Information and Communication Technologies. In 2015, she was recognized as TIME Magazine’s next generation of leaders for helping women in Pakistan fight online harassment. Dad has also successfully led campaigns which seeked to challenge legislation in Pakistan that gives powers to the government regarding online surveillance, most notably, the controversial Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill 2015 (PECB). Nighat Dad has also contributed to the initial consultations for the legislative drafts of the Acid Prevention Law 2010 and the Prevention of Violence Against Women Act 2015.
